Nottingham Forest could hand a debut to new signing Isaiah Osbourne for Tuesday's clash at the City Ground.
Guy Moussi is a doubt and fellow midfielder James Perch is suspended while striker Nathan Tyson is definitely out with a groin problem.
Preston manager Alan Irvine will assess defender Sean St Ledger and striker Jon Parkin ahead of the trip.
Both were withdrawn with injuries against Ipswich so Eddie Nolan and Chris Brown stand by to replace them.
Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies told BBC Radio Nottingham:
"I know the club [Preston] very well - I know the mentality of these players.
"They're an excellent hardworking side and they will make life very difficult for us."
