Newcastle v Everton

PREMIER LEAGUE
Venue: St James' Park Date: Sunday, 22 February Kick-off: 1600 GMT

Newcastle will welcome back Argentine winger Jonas Gutierrez and also hope that Obafemi Martins will be ready to play some part in the game.

Martins has been out since December with a hernia problem but is in the squad with Alan Smith and Mark Viduka.

Everton will recall Jo after he was cup-tied against Aston Villa and Louis Saha may be back on the bench.

Tim Cahill and Tony Hibbert are banned, while Marouane Fellaini, Leon Osman and Steven Pienaar are out injured.

Newcastle (from): Harper, S Taylor, Bassong, Coloccini, Enrique, R Taylor, Butt, Nolan, Duff, Lovenkrands, Ameobi, Jonas, Smith, Viduka, Martins, Edgar, Forster, Cacapa, Geremi, Edgar, Donaldson.

Everton (from): Howard, Jagielka, Lescott, Yobo, Baines, Gosling, Arteta, Van der Meyde, Neville, Osman, Rodwell, Saha, Nash, Castillo, Baxter, Jacobsen.

Newcastle assistant manager Chris Hughton:
"The break has been important, you want games, but with what happened to boss Joe Kinnear it's given us breathing space to evaluate.

Hughton welcomes back key players

"We've got players back from injury and had a chance to regroup.

"Things are more stable and it's a chance for us to put some daylight between us and the relegation zone."

Everton manager David Moyes:
"Nobody will have been more frustrated than Louis Saha that he has ended up missing so many games.

"He has plenty of experience and will have realised that the injury was just one of those things. Now he has got himself back.

"He is a terrific player and has shown that throughout his career. He has got an ability to finish and score goals and hopefully he will do that for us when he returns."

BIG-MATCH FACTS

Victory for Newcastle in the 150th league meeting with Everton, would see the Toffees becoming the first club in Premier League history to lose 250 matches.

The Tyneside club are still uncomfortably close to the relegation zone, while the Merseysiders are well placed for Europe.

A draw would take Newcastle's all-time Premier League points total to 900.

The Toffees have picked up nine points from their last three top-flight trips to the North-East, and have not lost in the region since their last visit to St James' Park.

Everton travel in search of their first Premier League win on Tyneside since a 0-1 triumph on 21 October 2000 when Kevin Campbell netted the winner. The Merseysiders have drawn two and lost five of their seven subsequent visits.

The 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture at Goodison on 5 October was Joe Kinnear's first in charge of the Magpies.

Distance between the clubs: 174 miles (281 kilometres)
